Regarding setting the reference oscillator by the zero beat method. Is the cw
pitch on the k3 set to 600hz or 500hz to do this? Also, should the radio be on for a period of time to warm up before performing the calibration? I also assume it is performed using the tone on WWV that is present when one tunes in WWV at 10MHZ and then one enters CW mode. (of course with CWT turned off as I discovered). One also needs TECH MD turned on to get to the REF OSC option on the CONFIG Menu. Then turning on spot (at 600hz?) then adjusting vfo A for zero beat. Has anyone tried calibrating by using the data sheet that comes with the txco with the k3 utility program. Is this any more or less accurate than the zerobeat method with WWV? Thanks. Eric,
The zero-beat must be at whatever pitch you have set for the sidetone on the K3 - it does not matter what that pitch may be, the results should be the same. The data sheet information may be entered using K3Utility, but I *believe* you still have to use Method 2 to set the center for the reference. The data sheet only provides variation with temperature, not an absolute setting. The Method 3 has not bee implemented yet because the reference oscillator temperature accuracy is better than the spec without it. So you get the specified accuracy for the 1ppm reference without need for the temperature compensation. 73, Don W3FPR On 12/5/2010 8:27 PM, Eric Lanzl wrote: > Regarding setting the reference oscillator by the zero beat method.
