(As a professional programmer I've never understood why the product of my hard work should be free when I have to pay for the product of everyone else's work.) - Would you send someone an invoice if you were to spend an afternoon helping them put up antennas? *** Sadly, too many would... *** One of the great things about software is that it is written once, installed a thousand times. As a provider of free software I enjoy putting something back into the hobby, goodness knows I took enough out while starting off in 1973/1974. *** Bravo Simon! Wish more felt the same, although this reflector has an abundance of folks willing to share professional and hobby experience free of charge. *** If Amateur Radio is to survive (which I am sure it will) and move forward good software is essential, just look at the SDR products. The cost of good software is too much for a small hardware company, so to get off the ground open source or at least freeware is maybe the only option. *** Many of the best Ham Radio programs I've tried (and still use) are freeware and open source. N1MM is an excellent example. The folks who work on it are innovative, extremely responsive to bugs and variations, and very friendly. *** My two centimes anyway... I am a sort-haired, dog-walking software engineer :-) Simon Brown *** Nice to have an image, but it wouldn't really matter what you looked like or what your preferences might be as long as you treated everyone with dignity (which you seem to do quite nicely) and without arrogance. *** 73, Julius n2wn _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
