I have been getting these mails quite often. for a year or two   now.
I regard them as Spam although no  virus or malware has been found yet.

Hello David,

This is one of my big gripes about LinkedIn.  When you first sign up, in
order to get your business/social network going you need to enter e-mail
addresses of your contacts.

LinkedIn offers to do this for you by reading your address book. The
unfortunate thing about this is that they really don't explain very well
what they're doing and how they're doing it and I think this is by
design.  It's just so easy to miss the fine print and click on OK.

So, if you have any mail reflector addresses in your address book this
is how these get posted.

They might suggest that but it was not required. If LinkedIn at any time
offered or suggested reading my address book I said no. I manually searched
for people I knew and sent invites. I would never pass along an e-mail
address book to any service.

If you want to see how this happens:

Log into your LinkedIn account
At the top right corner, click on "Add Connections"
Read the fine print on the left blue box : See Who You Already Know on
LinkedIn
This is where LinkedIn pulls e-mail addresses from your address
book....the default is "all addresses" selected.  See "Learn More" for
more information.
Too many users don't read the fine print and accept the default.
