In the midst of configuring k2 5087 to work with an old Icom vhf
microphone (succeeded) the lcd display has developed a "tic" with the veritcal bar which closes the 0 (or any other digit for that matter) on the right side such that 7268.00 looks like 7268.0C. It appears that finger pressure applied to the control board can make the bar appear and disappear. I would have thought that no connections which were as limited in application as the one controlling this bar would be affected by this sort of thing. Any ideas? John,
Congratulations on your new license - have a great time with it and your new K2. On the display segment problem, I would suggest that you look at the LCD display itself for good soldering - the 'legs' do not stick very far through the board and it is easy to miss one. Especially check the 3 rightmost pins carefully - and I wild even go so far as to tell you to solder them from the top of the board. A marginal solder connection at pins 38, 39 or 40 of the display driver IC (U1) on the front panel may also be the fault. The problem is likely not really on the control board because data is sent serially to the front panel for display, and that serial path is functioning if you can display any correct data at all - when you flex the control board, you are also moving th efront panel board a bit because they are tied together with the two standoffs. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > In the midst of configuring k2 5087 to work with an old Icom vhf > microphone (succeeded) the lcd display has developed a "tic" with the > veritcal bar which closes the 0 (or any other digit for that matter) on > the right side such that 7268.00 looks like 7268.0C.
