Only to take care of the simpler (DOH!) mistakes, you know that the line OUT
is a stereo plug and that you'll only use the left side (channel) for the main receiver audio (sub, if any is on the right)? And that the line IN is mono and uses the left side of the sound card output? If the line out adequately drives some amplified speakers, it's either a wiring issue or a linux issue.
