Re: roofing filters - when to use them

Fred (FL)
I think before we describe what operational artifacts,
roofing filters impact - someone needs to define what
a ROOFING FILTER is?  Is it different from the
filters one buys for his IC-706?   Why is it called
a ROOFING FILTER?   What job is a ROOFING FILTER
supposed to do?  What does ROOFING have to do with
anything?  Does it have some magical frequency
response curve - I would see via my CAD program?
Is it a elemental RLC type circuit - passive?

In other words - before one discusses the great uses
of a positraction rear end in my chevy - for what
reason was the positraction rear end designed for and
what are its characteristics, in the first place?

Why do I need a roofing filter - I guess that is
what is bothering me ...............  :)

I found this on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roofing_filter

How accurate it is, I don't know. Would anyone else care to elaborate?
