I bought a used k2 and just spent 12 hrs building a Kant-100.
The k2 looks like a bigger challenge . Mine had the 100w amp included. If you enjoy kit building, the K2 goes together one part at a time, just
like any other kit. Enjoy the process. The K2 breaks the assembly into 3 major pieces and has an alignment and test section following each assembly section so you can check your work. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/28/2018 7:51 AM, W4EDN wrote: > I bought a used k2 and just spent 12 hrs building a Kant-100. > The k2 looks like a bigger challenge . > Mine had the 100w amp included. > Bill > > Sent from my iPod > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > Message delivered to [hidden email] > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

Beyond that, the manuals are VERY detailed and for most part as complete as one could expect, HOWEVER, the builder needs to have the mental attitude to take a step back and think like you are just starting and reread and recheck every step. When you do, it IS a very rewarding experience and LOTS of FUN.

If you are interested in building as well as operating it's a pleasant experience. Just like a 10 mile hike, you do it one simple, easy step at a time. Those who seem to have had trouble just wanted a K2 to operate and tried to put the kit together as quickly as possible without double-checking their work at each step along the way. 73, Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of W4EDN Sent: Sunday, January 28, 2018 4:52 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] Re who would spend 30 hours building a k2? I think that building the K2 has to be an end in itself. I have more
pictures of various pieces taped to colored construction paper than I do of the radio itself. Other pictures feature my method of winding toroids. Then, at the end of building, you step over the "building finish line" to discover that you own one of the really great radios in the history of amateur radio. Then the operating fun begins. ...robert KE2WY On 1/30/2018 23:23, Mel Farrer via Elecraft wrote: > Beyond that, the manuals are VERY detailed and for most part as complete as one could expect, HOWEVER, the builder needs to have the mental attitude to take a step back and think like you are just starting and reread and recheck every step. I have built 4 K2s. I built 3 just for the pure pleasure of
participating in the engineering art that the K2 represents. The key to success is to not watch the clock; to not consider time at all when performing the assembly steps. As in many things in life, you should focus solely on the current step and current component. Do not think of the next step or steps later on, or even finishing. Place each component with all the care you can. One mistake resulting from rushing will cause you frustration and disappointment. The greatest sense of satisfaction you can experience when your are finished is to know that you did everything to highest degree of perfection you are capable of.
