Receive distortion on my K3 when using the internal K144XV

I have had the K144XV module installed in my K3 for about 2 years now and  
have noticed distortion from a local repeater that does not seem  to exist
on my Yaesu VX-2 handheld!
 
If I place my HT on the frequency and transmit that too is  distorted:(
 
Also the "AF REC" function does not play back the recorded audio and has  
never worked correctly when using the K144XV module.  Is this a known  
problem?
 
Does anyone have any ideas what could be the cause of these problems?
