Hello:
I recently purchased a KPA-1500 amplifier. I would like to be able to turn on the amplifier remotely. The manual says to apply 12v to the REM jack. I was wondering if anyone is doing this and what they are using to apply the 12 volts. Thanks, Charlie W3DDF ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Some do this with an RCA cable from the K3 rear panel 12v line to the amp REM connector. The amp turns on and off with the rig. Current draw is minimal; you can also use the same K3 12v to power your P3.

hello
what are the diferent ways to turn KPA1500´s on/off remotely? Is there any way to turn it on/off alone, with no need to turn on/off the K3? For example i want to turn on K3, but want to have KPA1500 off, is there any way to do that? thanks, Jorge CX6VM/CW5W <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> Libre de virus. www.avast.com <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> <#DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2> El jue., 14 mar. 2019 a las 22:08, Dick Dievendorff (<[hidden email]>) escribió: > Some do this with an RCA cable from the K3 rear panel 12v line to the amp > REM connector. Also, is there an easy way to also toggle the amp between operate and standby? Would be nice to write an app for a Smartphone, either Apple or Android (I carry both).

1) send a serial command ^on1 via the USB port. This is what the KPA1500 Utility does. The amp can process a few commands like this when “off”. The KPA1500 Remote program can also do this, via the USB connector. ^on0 turns the amp off.
2) supply 12v DC to a rear panel RCA connector. This can be used with a K3 to power the amp on with the K3, but any source of 12v will do. 3) pull down (ground) pin 8 on the ACC connector. Pull it down briefly. 4) send a Wake on LAN “magic packet” via the Ethernet connector. WoL must be enabled with a menu option. The KPA1500 Remote program does this when connected to the amp via Ethernet. 73 de Dick, K6KR > On Mar 18, 2019, at 19:38, Jorge Diez - CX6VM <[hidden email]> wrote: > > hello > > what are the diferent ways to turn KPA1500´s on/off remotely? > > Is there any way to turn it on/off alone, with no need to turn on/off the K3? > > For example i want to turn on K3, but want to have KPA1500 off, is there any way to do that? > > thanks, > Jorge > CX6VM/CW5W > > Libre de virus. www.avast.com > >> El jue., 14 mar. 2019 a las 22:08, Dick Dievendorff (<[hidden email]>) escribió: >> Some do this with an RCA cable from the K3 rear panel 12v line to the amp REM connector. The programming reference has an ^os command to do this. The KPA1500 Utility Operate tab and KPA1500 Remote programs use this command.

There are at least three methods to power the KPA1500 ON/OF independently without using the REM jack on the back of KPA1500, assuming you leave the rocker switch on the back of the separate KPA1500 power supply in the ON position: 1. Connect the KPA1500 to a PC via USB cable. Use the KPA1500 Utility (running on a local PC) to power the amp. on and off. The KPA1500 Remote Software <https://elecraft.com/pages/kpa1500-kpa500-kat500-remote-software> also has this capability. -or- 2. Momentarily ground Pin 8 of the KPA1500 AUX connector. This is easily accomplished using an S-BOX <https://bit.ly/S-BOX> or S-BOX-USB and a simple program to pulse the DTR or RTS pin of a real or virtual serial port, or you can build an equivalent circuit using a resistor and NPN transistor (same technique that is used by RemoteHams software to power up a K3 remotely with no RemoteRig box required). A KPAK3AUX cable cannot be used (no connection on Pin 8). 3. Use a Y-BOX v2.1 <https://bit.ly/Y-BOX> which can connect DIGOUT 1 (Pin 11) to the amplifier PIn 8, and a K3 Macro, as described in detail here <https://www.kkn.net/~n6tv/Y-BOX/Features.html#Remote>.
