Remote control software

recarter
I sent out a request for information about radio control software last week.  Briefly, I find the K2 user interface to be a little awkward, particularly when accessing configuration settings.  A computer control software package could fix these complaints.  I didn't get any leads for good software from the group, but I found this.

http://www.callsignsoftware.com/k2.html

This is exactly what I was looking for.  I'll be waiting anxiously for their first release.

RE: Remote control software

Craig Rairdin
I'm confused about these guys. They said "30 days" about 17 months ago. The
last update to the K2 page was over a year ago and promised it would be
ready soon.

But if you go to their download page (updated last month) it mentions "K2
bug fixes, improvements, and additional diagnostics", "K2/PC profiler used
to better match your combination of PC and K2", and "K2 support for audio
filters". And the Purchase page lets you purchase a version of
HamStationExtreme that includes K2 support.

But on the other hand these pages reference the K2 page for the latest info,
which talks about this as a future product.

You should buy a copy and tell us how it goes. :-)

Rich,

Take a look at Ham Radio Deluxe - easily customizable and free - also includes PSK31.
Another control program that I have found to be very good is the N4PY software.
A Google will find the URLs for you.

Yes, Ham Radio Delux is a nice package, but it doesn't do anywhere near what HamStationExtreme does.  For instance, you can't use it to adjust your filters.  I too do a lot of PSK-31.  I use DxLab.  I don't know if HamStationExtreme has a plug-in for this package.  If not, I hope they add support.

BTW:  It looks like callsignsoftware is shipping the K2 product.  It is listed at $69.  As soon as I get my amplifier installed, I'm planning to order.

I can't really test this since I don't have my KPA100 completed yet.  I poked around with Ham Radio Delux as much as I could, and I can't seem to find any method of setting the filters (both XFIL and AFDSP) on the K2.  I don't mean selecting, I mean setting.  This would mean filter low freq and bandwidth, and various DSP constant settings.  There doesn't appear to be any way to set most of the menu selections including these filter settings.  If I am incorrect, please let me know.

Thanks
Rich

That probably means that Elecraft haven't documented CAT commands to do it.

OM,

Elecraft has documented the CAT commands well.  I use MixW, and it
can control anything controllable on the K2.  I can set both the
analog and digital filters.  You can simulate a button push with CAT
command, and MixW lets you send <CATCMD:xxyy>  For example here's a
CAT command for
setting the mode and xtal filters to FL1 from any previous setting on
the
K2:
<MODE:BPSK31><UNLOCKTX><CLEARWINDOW><CATCMD:K23;SW18;SW10;MD9;FW00001;FW00002;SW33;FW00001;>

Re: Remote control software

Well actually, you CANT control the volume on a K2 :)

As far as setting filters. Callsign Software has full DSP control via the
interface. Not only that it reads the filter values and labels the buttons.

I believe the programming manual suggests this be done with the front
panel emulation mode, so the sequence would be to enter that mode, press
MENU, press BAND- to get to CAL, Press Menu, Press BAND - to get to FIL,
press Menu, etc.  It is probably OK for an automated DSP program for
aligniing the filters, but it may be a bit frantic for normal use.

If anyone would like to help HRD add this level of Filter support - please
contact me off-list. If you have MSN Messenger or SKYPE we can put this
together very quickly, initially by using the HRD Macro buttons.

In HRD I do support the FW filter options but not the special DSP stuff,
sadly Peter PH1PH (SK) sold his K2 before we got this done.
