One of the nicest features of the Orion (and previous Ten Tec rigs) is
the availability of a remote encoder - a tuning knob off the rig. Over the years, they've ranged from the encoder (tuning knob) by itself, or, in its present incarnation, a tuning knob and keypad. Is there an equivalent for the K3 (presumably a third-party developed item)? Hi Eric,
Try here: http://www.g4ilo.com/ktune.html It was designed for a K3 but I've been thinking of trying this with my K2. 73, Ken Alexander VE3HLS --- On Mon, 2/21/11, Eric Rosenberg <[hidden email]> wrote: > From: Eric Rosenberg <[hidden email]> > Subject: [Elecraft] Remote encoder? > To: [hidden email], [hidden email], [hidden email], [hidden email] > Date: Monday, February 21, 2011, 10:18 PM > One of the nicest features of the > Orion (and previous Ten Tec rigs) is > the availability of a remote encoder - a tuning knob off > the rig. Ken and Eric,
This encoder looks good but lacks buttons for activating the CW/SSB memories which for me is the biggest advantage of a remote pod. I use these memories all the time in normal operation as they save time, effort and voice. A pod would be much easier to access than the small buttons on the K3. I also have an Orion II with pod and find it most helpful! Even in contests where WinTest and the Micro Keyer II do most of the work it would be most useful to be able to access the K3 memories for some extra messages but as I have learned it can cause problems to just stab your finger at the radio in the heat of a contest. A pod has more limited possibilities for getting into trouble and can be conveniently placed on the operating desk. Well this is an old talking point for me and I suppose Elecraft is so busy that it will remain on a back burner. We are a demanding lot but TenTec does it so why not emulate the best of what is available from TT. Meanwhile the K3 is number one radio in this shack. 73 Doug EI2CN -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Ken Alexander Sent: 22 February 2011 05:01 To: [hidden email]; [hidden email]; [hidden email]; [hidden email]; Eric Rosenberg Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Remote encoder? There appear to be two versions of the Grifin Pod. Does it matter wjhch one
I get? Yes, other buttons would be great, and I would think this could be done using some other brand of device (thre are encoders with buttons). I'm not a programmer -- to say the least -- but I have worked with many over time. I'd like to think this is doable -- 73, Eric W3DQ Washington, DC On Tue, Feb 22, 2011 at 4:36 AM, Doug Turnbull <[hidden email]> wrote: > Ken and Eric, > This encoder looks good but lacks buttons for activating the CW/SSB > memories which for me is the biggest advantage of a remote pod.
