Request: Mic up/down buttons for band up/down

Jan, SM5FQQ
I use a Yaesu MD100A8X to my K3. The up/down buttons works fine for frequency up/down.
My request:  Selectable use of the buttons, I would like to have band up/down.

Re: Request: Mic up/down buttons for band up/down

Dave, G4AON
The menu of the K3 is getting too complex, there are already hidden
items which aren't obvious (like pressing "1" or "4" in some menus). My
vote is to stick with the basics.

Can we let Wayne finish off items like synchronous AM and TCXO
temperature calibration, both of which are in the manual and have been
for 2 years. Wayne is too easily sidetracked as it is!

AM sync is likely by the end of next week (at least for field test).

TCXO compensation is partway there: you can now enter your 1-PPM TCXO
data into K3 Utility, which sends the data to the K3.

The firmware end of this will be more time consuming, based on my
initial experiments. Since the 1-PPM TCXO is already meeting our
original spec for firmware-based compensation (0.5 PPM from 0-50 C),
I've been holding off on this while finishing other tasks. When I get
back to TCXO compensation, I'll have a tighter target (0.25 PPM from
0-50 C).

I think the best way to take care of TCXO calibration is to take it out
of the manual.

Sync AM is being worked on and the menus are quite clean in my book.
Press DISP and the radio explains what they are and how they work.
Simple.

Many of us who purchased the high stability option did so because the
TCXO Method 3 cal feature was a planned part of it.

So I don't think just "take it out of the manual" is such a great
plan  :-)

If you bought it because of a cool calibration option then thats you but
I'd imagine most people bought it for a 1PPM accuracy ability.  Turns
out without that calibration method it meets that specification.  You've
gotten what you paid for plain and simple.

Even though the 1 PPM TCXO already meets our original target with
firmware compensation (0.5 PPM, typical, 0-50 C), we wouldn't miss the
chance to make it better still. As I said, we're getting there.

Unusual 10 meter-PA tripped out

allenrw1955
In reply to this post by M0XDF
I hope this hasn't already been figured out, sorry if it has. Rig is S/N
3162
I was CQing with the K3's digital voice recorder on 10 meters yesterday
at 100w, I noticed that the SWR is bouncing up to the 3+ end of the
scale on the voice peaks. I stopped, checked the SWR with the K3's
bridge, SWR=1.6:1 and the MFJ-969 tuner also read approx. 1.5:1, so I
kept CQing and after 5-10 minutes the circuit breaker for the PA tripped
and wouldn't reset until it cooled down.
Then I turned down the output to about 70w and CQed for about 20 minutes
more with no more trouble.
I took the K3 to a friend's QTH and the SWR bouncing to the 3+ range was
the same but I didn't run it long enough to see if the circuit breaker
would trip.
Any thoughts?

Re: Unusual 10 meter-PA tripped out

Joe Planisky
Hi Bob,

You know, I've noticed the same sort of "SWR bouncing" behavior
running some MFSK digital modes on just about any band.  I haven't
noticed any problems because of it (i.e. I haven't had the circuit
breaker trip like you mentioned,) but it does seen a little odd.

I need to try it transmitting into my dummy load to make sure it's not
something weird with my antenna.
