Resistor for K3 I/F output buffer gain mod free in UK (and rest of world with green stamp/IRC)

Thomas Horsten
Hi all,

I had an off-list discussion with Graham G3ZOD about this K3 modification:
http://www.elecraft.com/K3/mods/IF_Output_Buffer_Gain_Mod_Rev_A.pdf

*"This modification increases the signal level at the I.F. output by more
than 10 dB. It requires changing one easily-accessible resistor on the K3’s
main RF board with either another surface mount device (SMD) or a leaded 1/8
watt resistor. A kit containing both an SMD and leaded resistor is available
from Elecraft: K3IOBUFFKT. *
*
*
*This change has been incorporated into all new K3’s beginning in September
2009."*

If you want to interface your K3 to a SoftRock Lite or similar for
panadapter functionality on the PC, this mod is essential for good results
(my K3 already has it from the factory).

The resistor needed for this mod is very cheap when bought in quantity, and
as I was ordering from Farnell anyway I ordered 100 of these for the
princely sum of £2.30 even though I only really needed one for Graham. So to
anyone on the lists in need of this mod and who would prefer not to pay
expensive shipping and handling charges upwards of £10 for what is basically
a 2p component, you can have a couple for free in return for a SASE.

To claim yours, just send a SASE to my address, I'm good on qrz.com. You'll
receive two of the following:

http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=1652918

(only one is needed for the mod, but since they are so cheap I'll include an
extra for contingency).

Anyone outside the UK who want to receive one, send me an IRC or a green
stamp in lieu of the SASE and I'll be happy to provide for you as well - I
can always use some ham currency for obtaining interesting QSL's!
