Rewind BL2?

Jim AB3CV
I don't have a real use for the 4:1 winding mode of the BL2. Is it
possible to make more effective use of the cores if it was rewound
just for 1:1?

Right now it seems like in 1:1 position (if I'm reading the schematic
right) the choke halves are in parallel, effectively halving their
impedence.

Jim,
Instead of rewinding, how about just connecting the two bifilar windings in series?

Re: Rewind BL2?

Guy, K2AV
Probably shouldn't mess with it.  The blocking impedance of both
halves in parallel is quite large, and more importantly allows you to
carry current overall at the rated power by dividing the current
between the two.  Put them in series and both are forced to carry the
same current, and power handling ability is cut in half at 1:1.
