S-Meter

Tobyp
I noticed Ten Tec has changed the operation of the s-meter on the Eagle,  Omni 7, and the Orion 2.

The meter now does not deflect to the right when the RF gain is turned down,  but continues to operate normally giving readings of weaker signals.

Someone explained to me one time there was a reason for having the s-meter configured to deflect to the right when the RF gain is turned back,  but in my mind I would like to see the RF gain ride the signals instead of deflecting.

What do you think?

The advantage of the present s-meter display is that you have a visual
indication for adjusting the RF gain level to the noise level. I'm not
sure that is a huge advantage as everyone probably fine adjusts the RF
gain by ear anyway.

I do often find myself momentarily turning up the RF gain to see the
indicated level of a weaker signal. (Please, no lectures about RST and
s-meters: the K3 has an accurate s-meter that can measure the signal
level at the antenna input. Some of us like knowing what that level is
in absolute terms.)

So, yeah, I also would like to have the option to use the non-variable
s-meter.
