okay I am a bit naive here but why would anyone need two k2s?
I know that elecraft would be happy if we each owned two but is there any good reasons for having two? after all I have to justify spending that money _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. David,
Everyone has to do their own justification for the dollars spent, and the reasons one would want a second K2 are quite varied. I have 2 so I can play with one on the workbench and use the other one - but there are many times both are operating to perfection, I just like to tinker. Some folks use one for VHF transverters and another for HF, some folks will use 2 K2s for SO2R operation, while others have one K2/100 for the home station and a QRP K2 for portable. And there are folks that just want 2 of everything <G>. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > okay I am a bit naive here but why would anyone need two k2s? > > I know that elecraft would be happy if we each owned two but is there any > good reasons for having two? > after all I have to justify spending that money > > _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. - How about tying two together to operate one as transceiver and other as
external receiver? Would work for DX operating split so you can listen in stereo - one ear on transmit freq and one ear on DX freq. - How about listening on a separate band while working on another band? - SO2R? - Use one to monitor 6M or another band with a transverter. - One K2 is used as a backup rig at home and the spare can be taken along on Dxpeditions. 2 K2s come in handy as bookends for all of your amateur radio literature!
It just does not look right to hold your books up with one if them and a KX1 is just not heavy enough to do the job. The 100 watt amps give the rigs enough heft to handle a goodly number of tomes. 73, Kevin. Guys, come on - the real answer? Because they are less than half the
cost of an IC-7800 and outperform that radio also! So if anyone who has two K2s is feeling guilty about it at this point, then follow these directions: Find a nice box, well padded. Place the extra K2 and its accessories in the box, packing it carefully. Ship it to me! Bet I won't feel guilty at all about having two... Seriously, the reason I will eventually have two transceivers on my desk is for SO2R contesting. I am told that there is a lot to be said for having the audio of one radio working a band in your left ear, and the second receiver's audio in your right ear. It's supposed to greatly improve your contesting abilities, drive you nuts, or both! >> On Jan 31, 2005, at 3:23 PM, David wrote: >> >>> okay I am a bit naive here but why would anyone need two k2s? >> >> 1) If you are into contesting, you'd need a second K2 to run SO2R >> (Single Operator 2 Radios) >> >> 2) You need one for the shack, and one for the moble / RV / summer >> home >> >> 3) You need a spare K2 so you can still operate radio while you are >> putting the latest mods into your other K2. >> >> 4) You never USE the K2, you just build them.... >> >> Bill Coleman, AA4LR, PP-ASEL Mail: [hidden email] >> Quote: "Not within a thousand years will man ever fly!" >> -- Wilbur Wright, 1901 - Jack Brindle, W6FB ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------- _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
