SCS PTC-II and 5 years

Steve Jackson-5
Someone posted about using Pactor II on the K2.  This
works fine.  (PT-III mode, however, does not.)  Use K2
'RTTY' mode which disables the compression when
selected, or, manually shut it off.  Set one filter
(using the NG1 and Spectrogram) for the best flatness
across the audio frequency range for good RX, watching
for low frequency rolloff and passband ripple.

Use a low-level single-ended audio source, such as the
one from W3FPR, to feed the PTC-II, and carefully
adjust the PSKA setting on the PTC-II, preferably
using a 'scope, for best performance. Also make sure
to use the PT-II autopower option.  Note that the
absolute frequency accuracy and 10 Hz minimum steps of
the K2 may, in this mode, run up against the maximum
automatic 'pull' ability of the mode.  Therefore,
avoid fully automated operation (not that it's a good
idea, anyway).

Topic 2:  My K2, #771 arrived 5 years ago yesterday,
and was built and on the air for SKN 99-00.  Today,
with the addition of all options including a K2/100
and KAT100, it's replaced my IC-756PROII as my main
station radio.  It has been on 24x7 for years.  For
it's 5th birthday, I'm giving the rig a new left
panel, a new set of crystals, a rewound transformer,
and some new caps on the SSB module!

All that's missing is the matching receiver and PA.
Hope that 2005 brings me these long-awaited station
additions, and to all, a very prosperous and happy
next solar orbit.  After all, at 19 miles per second,
we're all on the same ride.  Wheee!
