Folks,
I've never been into the digital modes much but am studying putting an SCS Pactor III HF modem on the air as part of the ARES Winlink 2000 initiative. I already consider my K2 as my primary ARES HF rig since I can run it on batteries for a good long time - my question to the group is whether anyone has successfully used a K2 with an SCS mode runninng Pactor III. Any data, pro or con on the K2 in this application would be appreciated. Tom,
The local SCS modem expert is Lewis Thompson, W5IFQ here at ARL. email him at the adr I will send, for info on the interfacing of the SCS. He has successfully interfaced them to the little 5 watt Yaesu radio, I know. I think it is pretty straightforward to interface the SCS to anything. The manuals are readable and VERY complete, as I studied one when he and I hooked the SCS to an Icom 756 Pro II. 73, Stuart K5KVH _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Appreciate it, Stuart - would still appreciate any feedback from a K2 owner
who has tried this - the actual rig interface looks simple but they talk about "supported rigs" and transmit receive times and their may be filter considerations to achieve PACTOR III speeds. I did send Lewis a note on your suggestion - thanks! We used a PTCPro with a K2 on the T33C trip, and the radio and modem
worked just fine for log uploads. I've also used my PTC-IIe with my K2/100 with the EA3BLQ mod to make a 6pin digital mode mini-Din attachment point. I wired it such that it matches the equivalent mini-DIN on the FT-817 and IC706MKIIG, so I can use the same cable for any of them. 73, doug _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hello.
I am building K2 SN3278 and am about to install L25 and L26 (40m low pass filter). I have pre-wound toroids BUT the pre-wound toroids both have 16 turns. The manual says L25 should be 14 turns and L26 should be 12 turns. I assume that the manual is correct but wanted to double check. Thanks & 73 Bob WB3FXC _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Hi Tom I have successfully used my SCS PTC IIex modem with my K2 for Winlink remote email application. I interface it to the rig through the mic jack with the mod to bring receive audio to the mic jack through an unused pin. I am thinking of adding a din receptacle to the back of the rig to make the connection direct and leave the mic jack free. I run Pactor III with no trouble whatsoever and achieve great data throughput. The K2 (QRP) with the SCS modem is a dynamite combination for keeping in touch via Winlink while traveling by boat, rv or even at the picnic table up at the cottage. I can make connection with the host stations on 40 and 20 with a 22 foot wire thrown into a tree and a counterpoise. 73 Rick, ve3mm K2/100 #1591 KX1 #188 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Thanks Rick - exactly what I was looking for. Yet another feather in the

Hi, Bob-
The K2 set that you have, with L25, L26 each consisting of 16 turns, is for K2 kits that have serial numbers below 3000. Did you buy this set from me? I ask because I keep these older toroid variations in a separate area and only get them out when it is requested of me by a builder with an older kit. This sort of request is rare. Based on the serial number that you have given, L25 should have 14 turns and L26 should have 12 turns. Regardless of how you acquired the parts, I will send you the two correct toroids at no charge if you will supply me with your shipping particulars. 73, Mychael AA3WF K2#1025 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi, Bob-
Thanks for the email mentioning that you acquired the parts from another ham and not from me directly. Thank you as well for the nice words regarding my toroids. Yes, RFC11 is a new addition relative to the toroid set used by pre serial number 3000 K2 kits. You will not find one in your "heritage" set. Instead, you will notice that you have an L33 . This is the old BFO inductor that has since been replaced by a kit supplied toroid. In this instance you will not be using the one that I supplied. Yes, I am from Pittsburgh, and we do live in rather close proximity to one another! Perhaps we will meet someday, especially if you are buying lunch- hi! 73, Mychael _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I have just read Mychael's comments about L25 & L26.
I appear to have missed the change in the Low-Pass Filter components when I upgraded my Revision A PCB to Revision B. I see from the latest circuit diagram that the filter is labelled "40/60m". What is the reason for the change in the filter components, and is the change recommended for the Revision A K2? Hi
The change was made to allow for 60 meters. If you add the K60XV you will need to change the filter. Thank you, Don. I do indeed use the K60XV but have missed any reference
to the need to change the LPF. Could you tell me please, where this information was published? 73 de David G4DMP In a recent message, Don Brown <[hidden email]> said.... >The change was made to allow for 60 meters.
