For those of you who may be interested in attending
this first time event. Should make for an interesting day in East Tennessee. 73, Julius n2wn From: Lynn Lamb [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2005 10:29 AM To: Undisclosed-Recipient:; Subject: SEDCO This is addressed mainly the local DXers/Contesters and a few others we consider our 'local' buddies and valued friends. As some of you know George W4UWC, Rosie KA4S and I formed the South Eastern DX and Contest Organization mainly to sponsor events dealing with fellowship/information relative to DXing and Contesting. No profit, no completion with any other events, no selling.. just what we feel will promote ham radio and help pay back to our hobby and the many friends we've been blessed with for our combined 140 years on the air. The first event will be a convention of balanced programs of Contest and DX related topics on Oct 1st after the Ten-Tec hamfest, which we can all agree draws thousands. While Ten-Tec is helping very much, this is an independent effort. We value their help and advice, big time. They will handle the tickets, ticket sales, some advertising and some good old fashion advice. Scott will be on the contest program with an incredible talk... you won't believe it and coming from a contest record holder. We are in the process of developing a web site thanks to Ed, N4EFD (the very best!). We will run ads in QRZ-DX, The DX Magazine, QST, and CQ to name a few. We have contracted with the Mainstay Suites in Pigeon Forge including a block of rooms for both Friday and Sat evening with a good rate for SEDCO. This is a FIRST CLASS facility. The programs will run about 30 minutes each starting at 1330 into the evening. Everyone will be on their own for dinner and the tickets are priced at $20 just to cover only the costs as our approach is not to make money. We will provide snacks and drinks for the event but no alcoholic beverages per our lawyer KE4EQU! The press release went out from Carl N4AA in his latest QRZ-DX yesterday and the ads will start flowing shortly giving ticket information, maps, rates, programs, etc. Thanks to Ted W4NZ President of the TN Contest Group for developing the program in the contest area and acting as MC. We are blessed to have Ted on the team. Likewise, Carl N4AA of DX Publishing will MC and lead the DX part. George, Rosie and I are selecting the programs on DX. We are proud to say Bob K4UEE, Co-leader of the upcoming 3Y0/P dxpedition, will be one of our special guest, Dave K4SV (who is operating 4U1ITU as I type), Hal WB4E (YI9B4E) and some other surprises are committed. More on programs as Ted gets his lined up and we have times down. We need a good presence of local folks if for no other reason to shore the three of us who have necks stuck WAY out, hi. Announcements on ticket sales will be out soon. Stay tuned for the ads or call/email any of the three of us for details. As said, SEDCO is aligned with no group, club or company.. it's just us folks and the support from you, Chattanooga and Charlotte brothers/sisters... and others. It's this enthusiasm that helped us make the decision to move forward to what we hope will be a good thing and improve from year to year. We will make mistakes, but our hearts are in the right place... for ham radio and fellowship in our area of our interest vis a vis contesting and dxing. 73, Lynn W4NL for SEDCO P.S. Please feel free to spread the word.. thanks. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
