When the day comes I need to work with SMD in a kit, that will be the day I no longer build a kit. For me, life is too short for that crazyness. I would no longer enjoy building a kit if I had to mount SMD. Why? Because I feel that way and it's my money to spend as I see fit. I do enjoy rebuilding old tube radios and transmitters and new tube glowbug QRP transmitters besides solid state QRP rigs. Unmounted SMD would shift my interest totally to these other interests. If a kit manufacturer would mount a few of the SMD parts on circuit boards, that would be OK with me.
