SOC Marathon Sprint

N4BP
Coming up this Saturday, rules below.  At last count, we have 716
members, so hopefully we will have good participation.  QRP is preferred
on the calling frequencies listed, but since more than 5W is allowed in
the rules, please limit power to no more than 100W.
I'll be using the club call, W0SOC

SOC Marathon Sprint
Most sprints run four hours, but since we're Second Class Op's,
we need more time!

Date/Time: Sep. 9, 2006, 1800Z through 2400Z

Exchange:     Member - RST, State/Province/Country, SOC Number
          Non-Member - RST, State/Province/Country, Power Out

QSO Points:                          Member = 5 Points
            Non-Member, Different Continent = 4 Points
                 Non-Member, Same Continent = 2 Points

Multiplier:   SPC (State/Province/Country) total for all bands.
The same station may be worked on more than one band for
              QSO  points and SPC credit.

Power Multiplier:     0 - 250mW = X 15
                    250 mW - 1W = X 10
                        1W - 5W = X 7
                        Over 5W = X 1

Suggested Frequencies:

160 Meters            1810 kHz
80 Meters             3560 kHz
40 Meters             7040 kHz
20 Meter             14060 kHz
15 Meters            21060 kHz
10 Meters            28060 kHz

Score:
Points (total for all bands) X SPCs (total for all bands)
X Power Multiplier

Apply an additional multiplier of 1.5 if using a homebrew paddle (kits
such as the NorCal and AZ ScQRPions paddles qualify).

All entries are Multi-Band to promote maximum participation.

Entry includes a copy of the log and a separate summary sheet.
Indicate total time-on-the-air, and include a legible name, call, SOC
Number (if any) and address.  All entries must be received within 30
days of the contest date.  The highest output power used will determine
the power multiplier.  Include a description of homebrew equipment
(including paddle or key), commercial equipment, and antennas used with
each entry.

Results may be posted on QRP-L and on the SOC Website.  The final
decision on all maters concerning the contest rests with the contest
manager.  Entries are welcome via E-Mail to [hidden email], or by snail
mail to:

K2 and Amp in enclosure

Steven Pituch
Hi all,
I have decided to put my K2 and associated equipment in one large case for
easier deployment in emergencies.  My friend Bill Albert AD5TD has done this
with an FT100 in an old camp stove enclosure.  There is a rather poor photo
of it at:
http://www.kristv.com/Global/story.asp?s=5074978

My question is whether I need to space the equipment apart to prevent EMI.
I know you need to use the K2VCOSHLDKT mod kit if you want to place the K2
near an amp.  I will probably stack the equipment with the K2 on the bottom,
The KPA100/KAT100 in the EC2 case above it, a Yaesu FT8100R on top of that,
and either an SEC1223, or Astron ss30 switching power supply on top of that.
I will be spacing the equipment for some ventilation and the rear side of
the case will be removable for additional ventilation during actual
operations.  Right now I use a muffin fan on top of the KPA100 and will
probably permanently mount that on the amp.  If anyone can offer any advice
it is appreciated.

I will probably build the box out of Luan plywood and fiberglass cloth.

Having everything assembled in the box will help keep things together during
a deployment and also make it easier to operate mobile without leaving
something at home.

Regards,
Steve, W2MY/5
