SSB Net

R Stanley Sutton
Once again tried to log into the net, but could not hear net control.
Could we have some assigned relay stations?

Re: SSB Net

Bill Frantz
Phil, NS7P was strong into the San Francisco Bay area this
morning. I copied him at S7. There was at least one station in
the east calling for relay checkins. I actually managed to check
in on my first call (at 12 watts). I was so surprised I almost
forgot to respond. :-)

I agree.

I gave up on QNI'ing into the SSB Elecraft net because I can never copy the net control and obvously net control cannot copy me.  A long time ago I did check in but was picked up by an alternate in southern California.  It is not surprising that net control cannot hear me as he is only about 260 miles from my QTH -- dead zone for 20 meters.

I think we need a relay in Arizona or southern California (maybe or New Mexico) to cover all west coast stations plus and maybe there is a need somewhere in mid-country too.

I wonder where you are located.  In addition to my calling, we had relays operating from both Texas and Alabama.

Re: SSB Net

Phil,

As far as a signal report.  I think I heard you this morning but definitely not copy capable.  I did not try to check in though as I did not hear any relay stations.  Maybe I was not around long enough to hear them.  Rig:  K3, Antenna:  Traffie Hex Beam which I now realized was pointed East but it has a very wide front end and pointing south most likely would not affect your signal enough to copy.

I am in Kirkland WA -- almost Due North of you about 260 miles.  By the way, nice location -- I like that area of Oregon -- I graduated from North Bend High School (class of '65) over on the coast and went to Oregon State.

Re: SSB Net

Phil Shepard
Phil,

We usually have a strong so. Cal station, John - N6JW, who helps pull in PNW stations that I can't hear.  He was absent today.  today, we had several southern stations acting as relays (GA, AL and TX).  We'll keep trying.  I'll look at asking those that hear me well to stand by for the others that may be getting drowned out. Perhaps a relay in each time zone.

Re: SSB Net

David Guernsey
I have asked for a relay a couple of times and seemed to be ignored.  It is funny at nt QTH in Central CA.  Sometimes I can hear Phil great and at other times he is down in my noise.  I'll just keep trying to check in when I can.  My wife suffered a traumatic brain injury in early Feb, and sometimes I cannot get on the radio due to other committments.

Re: SSB Net

I attempted to check-in but the whole 2m band was flat.  WWV-15MHz
could be heard, but weakly.  I did copy NP4Z at 1400utc on 14.345 who
is in IL (net control for the eme net), but by time for the Elecraft
Net the band died (to anywhere).  I just figured there was another solar flare.

Re: SSB Net

Bill Frantz
I've been off and on 20M all day since the Elecraft net mostly
listening. I managed a QRP PSK31 contact with ZL1LC. A strong
station from France had so much jitter in his signal I couldn't
copy him at all. I got the idea he was in France from the
station he was working. There also seems to be a lot of noise
and QSB on the band. YMMV.

Cheers - Bill, AE6JV

I'm in Dallas, and usually I have a hard time hearing Phil...  While
my K3 is new, the antenna is a GAP Titan vertical which is all that
my HOA allows, so that's an issue...  The last couple weeks I
listened for 5 minutes or so, and heard nothing...  In previous
weeks, the AL and GA relays would always come in loud and clear...
Guess I was too impatient yesterday....  Heard lots of other folks,
but not the net...    Ernie

In reply to this post by Phil Shepard
Phil/All,

I am usually on the net during Daylight Savings Time months when it meets
at 2:00 PM EDT.  I usually have no problems hearing Phil or John, N6JW,
from my QTH outside Atlanta, GA.  If you are trying to check into the net
and can't get to Phil or John, and you can hear me, I will be more than
happy to relay for you.

Phil, you are about 300 degrees from my QTH, so I cover a good deal of the
country with my Hexx Beam when I'm pointed your way.  I am always happy to
act as a relay or call for check-ins for stations that maybe don't hear you
when you call the net to order.  Just let me know if you'd like my
assistance when I'm on the net, and it is yours.

73,
