Tried to check in this morning to no avail. Asked for relay since I could not hear net control, but nobody came back. So after a half hour I stated "negative contact, going QRT" and shut down. There needs to be some way for us using K3/10 and other low power rigs to get into the net.

Band conditions here were also dreadful. I tried the same process. I could occasionally hear some voice like artifacts in the noise, but the noise was s8 and s9 solidly for the first 30-45 minutes. I tried calling for a relay, but heard nobody. Noise here was horrible. Earlier in the morning I worked a guy in NYC and Chicago.... but by 2 Eastern, the band was a mess.
KK4QDZ - Now with Extra Class Priv's, and a tiny KX3 to enjoy them! On Sunday, August 11, 2013 4:19 PM, David Guernsey <[hidden email]> wrote: Tried to check in this morning to no avail. I'm typically one of the first few check-ins, from my QTH in Metro Atlanta.
I run a K3/KPA500 combo at 500+ watts out. Even I needed N6JW to relay me in to Phil today. 73, Ian, KM4IK On Aug 11, 2013 4:30 PM, "Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz)" <[hidden email]> wrote: > Band conditions here were also dreadful. When the band is out, it's out. You could organize an alternate band if conditions are poor on the primary one.

I've been fortunate to be able to check in fairly easy from Alaska.
Maybe because skip favors the roughly 1600mi path to Phil or the longer path to N6JW (who is generally stronger). I started out only running the K3/10 at 10w a couple years ago so that is pretty good. It was more difficult conditions, yesterday, though I was copying NS7P. I used N6JW sweep to check in easier. I was running my 120w PA into the Hygain TH3mk4 at 50-feet. 73, Ed - KL7UW http://www.kl7uw.com [hidden email] "Kits made by KL7UW" ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
