Scanning

Am I correct in deducing that scanning requires the sub receiver?

No. Scanning proceeds from the VFO A frequency to the VFO B frequency, and is actually implemented only on the main receiver. This applies to the K3/K3S/KX2/KX3.

The K4 will likely have additional scanning options, e.g. scanning separately on the two receivers.
