Secondary Allocation at 472-479 kHz Approved at WRC-12

Per ARRL, "delegates attending the 2012 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-12) have approved a new 7-kilohertz-wide secondary allocation between 472-479 kHz for the Amateur Radio Service."

Implementation won't occur until allocations are made in each country, so it's unlikely this won't be seen anywhere until 2013.

Antenna issues aside, which may be formidable at those frequencies, what can be done to enable the K3 to cover this new band?

The K3's synthesizer was never intended to go below 550 kHz,
originally. We changed the firmware to get it to 490, but to get to
472 may require a hardware modification to the synthesizer that
adversely affect coverage of other bands. So I can't guarantee
anything. But once the new band is authorized, I'll change the
firmware so that the VFO can be moved down that far, and we'll see
whether the synth functions satisfactorily.
