First, I wanted to say that I'm looking for a no frills CW K2.
But a K1 or KX1 would do nicely, too as my main bands are 40 and 20. Please contact me off list if you have a K2 or its little brothers for sale. That failing, a DSW 20 II or DSW 40 II would do nicely, too. Just my two cents ... Elecraft gear in general can be very hard to come by
on the used market, and I think this is primarily due to the fact that once you own an Elecraft there's really not much of a reason to sell it for something else. I'm showing my age here, but I remember well the days of Heathkit -- and in my opinion the folks at Elecraft have done a superb job of taking the Heathkit model to the next level -- they make a damn fine kit radio without compromises. Heathkits were, well, "decent" gear, but in its day considered on the expensive side for what you got. Elecraft gear isn't cheap, but you get all that you pay for, and more. Hence the high retention rate. Building Elecraft gear has become almost therapy for me -- there's nothing
like quiet time at the bench! I built a bunch of Heathkit stuff back in the 70s and 80s, and then later ran a TV/VCR repair business before everything became throwaway. It's sure nice to have a reason to rebuild the workbench. I've built nowhere near the same number of rigs as you have, and only recently got into building Elecraft gear, but my particular love is the KX-1. The few KX-1's I've built have been immediately sold for what I paid, and another one ordered to take its place. A freshly built KX-1 lasts a few hours maximum on a for sale board. 73, Steve, KW4H On Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 9:21 AM, Alan Price <[hidden email]> wrote: > Steve: > > I agree with you 100%.
