Wonder just how many of us have had the pleasure of using N6KR's design, the NORCAL Sierra? I picked up one on eBay and find it to be one sweet li'l rig. I've had it on 40 and 20 with consistently good reports. The rx is a pleasure to listen to. Definitely a keeper! I read somewhere that Field Day, 1994 marked the prototype's debut. So happy 10th, Wayne! I picked up a Sierra about 3yrs ago. Nice rig but just a prelude to bigger
and smaller better things. -- 73 ditdit, Doc YI9RVT/KE4RVT Al Kut, Iraq ***All emails and attachments scanned by Norton Antivirus with current definitions*** N33.29 E45.45 FPQRP #85 KX1 S/N 0337 QRP-L #2201 (sk) K1 S/N 0113 ARS #1696 K2 S/N 2768 FIST'S #10652 FT897 QRPARCI #11746 www.qrparci.org www.arsqrp.com www.fists.org Sometimes a little brain damage can help. Thanks for noticing, Bill ;)
Not as well known is that I had a bit of help from Eric in test/refinement of the prototype Sierra. So 2004 also marks the 10th anniversary of our first collaboration. Also, the Sierra wouldn't have happened without Doug Hendricks, KI6DS, and Jim Cates, WA6GER (SK). These guys worked tirelessly to promote the Sierra (and other designs) as club projects, and deserve much of the credit. 73, Wayne N6KR On Jun 24, 2004, at 4:45 AM, [hidden email] wrote: > > Wonder just how many of us have had the pleasure of using N6KR's > design, the > NORCAL Sierra? I've been unplugged from QRP-L for quite some time due to low S/N
ratio. When did Jim Cates pass on? 73, John AA2BN P.S. Congrats on the 10th anniversary Wayne. Hi John,
Here's the original posting that Doug H made when Jim passed away: Jim Cates, WA6GER, passed away yesterday due to cancer. He discovered that he had it in January, and went very fast. Jim was the best friend I ever had and I feel his loss deeply. He was a giant in qrp circles, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Jim was a very private individual, and there will not be any services held. He will be cremated and his ashes buried next to his wife's grave in a family only service. Paul Maciel and I last saw him 3 weeks ago. He was as sharp as ever mentally, and was at peace with himself and ready to go. He asked me to say thank you to all of his qrp friends for being so kind to him over the years. That was Jim Cates, ever the gentleman, and always thinking of other people. Please keep him in your prayers. 72, Doug, KI6DS Doug posted the above on April 17, 2004. Was very sad and I'm glad that I got to walk around a bit with Jim at the swap at Pacificon last year. The Norcal QRP Club is now using Jim's old call. 73's Trev - K6ESE http://www.qsl.net/k6ese ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Zaruba Jr" <[hidden email]> To: "wayne burdick" <[hidden email]> Cc: <[hidden email]>; <[hidden email]> Sent: Thursday, June 24, 2004 3:21 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Re: Sierra's 10th > I've been unplugged from QRP-L for quite some time due to low S/N > ratio. > > When did Jim Cates pass on? > > 73, > > John AA2BN > > P.S.
