Signal Tracing - Success!

Ken Kirkley-3
Well, with my head hanging low and a sheepish look on my face...I can
report that I have completed Phase II Testing with success! I had asked for
some assistance yesterday with signal tracing in order to find where the
signal was being lost. After reading some replys, *trying* to read and
understand
the schematic some more, I went out of town for the night. While gone
the schematic for C6 became crystal clear in my mind and I knew exactly what
I had done. When the directions said to use the OUTER two pads for
installing C6 on the bottom of the board, I understood that to mean the
two OUTER
pads that were closest to the side of the board. Don't ask me how I came
to that conclusion...I don't know! I realized last night that the center
pad was a
ground pad! Maybe for numbskulls such as myself, the directions should
say something like "install C6 to pads 1 and 3 on the bottom side of the
board".
Boy...do I fell sheepish...especially since Don had asked me point blank
if I had C6 installed correctly. In my mind at that time I did.

OK...on to the rest of the build! Boy, I am beginning to somewhat
understand the schematic! Isn't that scary...

RE: Signal Tracing - Success!

Ken

Its good you spotted the difference as there is a few places on the board
like this.

I know some-one else that also nearly did this and I was struggling to
explain what vias were because they looked like pads (and about the same
size). Luckily they stopped at that point as they were confused.

Perhaps Elecraft should consider tenting all the vias on the next batch of
PCB they order in so the difference between footprint/decal pads and vias is
a bit more obvious.
