Senioritis...:-)

On a lighter note, I am building K2 number 4996...The owner and I were both hoping it would be number 5000, but he's glad that it was not number 4999...

Re: kpa 100 PA hot ??? & no power out

Bill Steffey NY9H
with only about four hours to go my k2/qrp //- EC2 KPA100/KAT100 developed
a  problem.  "PA HOT",,,and locked into xmt.  Had to power down to get it
out of xmt.  BUT THE PA was NOT hot... not even close,,,,over the course of
field day it never really got hot  (this was a gota station with good
dipoles)......

The k2 when disconnected from the kpa/kat100 appears at first testing to be
ok,,,, but the 15 watts didn't cut it for the last four hours,,,,as a gota
station.

I looked in the book... but until I put a meter in there I'm clueless.

it will not develop any power from the amp.The k2 is good at 15 watts...
It was developing only about 50 60 watts out on 20 before it went down....
( and i just ordered the 20/30 mtr mod kit ),,,,
was it always low on 20 ...i do not know...

And of course I leave on a car trip for 6 days,,,in half hour. Guess I'll
have to find a wifi  hotel to park at &  to look thru the archives... ..

maybe someone has been here before?????
bill  ny9h....

Re: kpa 100 PA hot ??? & no power out

Douglas Westover
Hi Bill,

Check the value in the menu item "CAL tPA", I'll bet it says
256. There seems to be a mysterious set of circumstances
that causes this value to be set to the maximum value.
I've had this occur on several occasions and the solution
is to reset the CAL tPA value.

73 and good luck,
Doug, W6JD

RE: kpa 100 PA hot ??? & no power out

Bill,

Check the menu entry for CAL tPA - it should be set to the same temperature
as the transistor cases in degrees C.  If you let things cool down to
ambient (long enough so everything is at the same temperature, you can set
it properly.

I really don't know what is going on here because I have never experienced
it and never had an opportunity to analyze it, but baed on what some others
have said, it usually results from operation under some 'adverse conditions'
such as might be found on Field Day or portable operation - so my guess is
that it may be related to some spike that comes in on the power supply line
or maybe something entirely diffeerent, but bottom line judging from the
reports I have heard about, it occurs seldom in a home station environment,
and most of the occurrances are related to portable operating conditions -
of course my suppositions on this have yet to be substantiated.
