I needed a way to quickly interface to the computer without
purchasing an interface box. I have the CAT system running and used
HamRadioDeluxe/PSK-31 for software control. My solution to the audio
interface was to use a stereo receiver I use to drive the 5.1 channel
speakers from the computers in the shack. I have a stereo cable that
plugs into the back of the K2 disabling its speaker. I leave the AF
gain at max on the K2 and then use the stereo receiver's control to
adjust the listening volume. To supply a non-adjusted level of audio
to the PC sound card, the audio channel used on the stereo receiver
is the "Aux" channel and I use the "tape recorder out" channel for
the PC connection. Since this worked out to be a stable setup with
regard to EMI, I used the other unused (right or left) stereo channel
to buffer the audio back from the computer to to the K2... using the
unused channel of the "tape recorder out" to the K2 and the "Aux"
input from the PC. This will result in K2 audio from my left speaker
during receive and computer generated audio from my right speaker on
transmit with both adjustable and not interfering with the fixed
audio levels required to drive the K2 and PC sound card. Seems to be
working well so far. I made my first contact on PSK-31 last night
using my new K2 (serial # 5372). Still working on getting the audio
levels right, but that should not be a long term problem.
