K1LZ and others operated from the same National Park Service Marconi site as the Steve wG0AT video. Can you imagine putting up a "temporary" 4 square for 160 in severe January weather on Cape Cod just for a 2 day contest? It appears they set a new USA Multiop record which will probably stand for many years:

You brought back old memories. I was invited to the 100th anniversary of
the Marconi event by W1AA to help setup and operate the two Satellite stations. I spent a week operating out of the same Coast Guard Station. I met Pi (who has become a good friend) there for the first time as well as ranger Barbara. If anyone wants' to see a pix of the Sat ops in front of the old station checkout my webpage link from my call at QRZ. Click on the Marconi sat ops link on the left side on my website..... 73 Jeff kb2m -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Steve_wG0AT Sent: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 13:58 PM To: ElecraftLIST Subject: [Elecraft] So the K3 Won't Do Spark Gap? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oP5ZMWJ0fU Sorry no 4-legged goats in this 5-minutes! 73, Steve ...wGØAT/R&P http://www.youtube.com/goathiker ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Somewhat related ...
Some years ago I visited the Marconi site at Glace Bay. The site that the Canadians tout as "the Marconi site" was only the receiving station's location. The 600 acre transmitter site is a few miles away on a dirt road and is virtually unknown. It took me two days to track it down. There's the proverbial long story involved, but I came away with a huge (+/- 3') antenna insulator from the original station and some scraps of wood to make certificate frames with. The insulator hangs in my shack, and it was given to me by the caretaker of the site, who is the grandson of Marconi's foreman. It's a tragedy that the site isn't protected by Parks Canada. There are political reasons why, but it's still tragic. Marconi's car and home is there and the house is furnished with the Marconi family furniture, including his wife's piano and his mandolin. There's even an attic full of his personally made radio "junk". So sad ... enough to make a fella cry. I've been to radio's Mecca! (:-)) 73! For an added touch, you might want to wrap some of that framing material around an original Marconi Wireless stock certificate (canceled, of course). There are lots of them available from sources on the internet (just do a Google search on "stock certificate" and "Marconi Wireless") at prices between $20 and $100 depending upon condition and date of issue. I bought one a few years ago and they are fairly attractive. 73, Dave AB7E ------Original Mail------ From: "Ken Kopp" <[hidden email]> To: "Steve_wG0AT" <[hidden email]>, <[hidden email]> Sent: Wed, 24 Mar 2010 02:48:23 -0000 Subject: [Elecraft] So the K3 Won't Do Spark Gap?
