Hi Folks,
I've been receiving an email all day today (now up to 9 copies) related to the photos from the WRTC. Naively, it doesn't look like the sender's problem, because when I look at the list archives, only one copy of the email shows up there. Yet I have been receiving duplicates (with the same time signature) all day long. And it's the only email that's been cloning itself. All others received from the list have been one-offs, as they should be. The phenomenon appears to be independent of email client. I can use any of three email clients, and they all continue to get copies of this email. Any thoughts as to where I should look? With best regards, Pete -- Peter N. Pete,
If your ISP offers webmail, check there first, it may be stuck in your output queue. Otherwise, it is stuck somewhere in cyberspace en-route to your address. Not much you can do about that condition. The ones I have had went away after a day or two. 73, Don W3FPR Pete Spotts wrote: > Hi Folks, > > I've been receiving an email all day today (now up to 9 copies) related > to the photos from the WRTC. > > Naively, it doesn't look like the sender's problem, because when I look > at the list archives, only one copy of the email shows up there. It happens to me occasionally, but it's not just this list. It used to
happen a lot over weekends. It doesn't happen so often and I've assumed it is the flaky software from my ISP, or it could be something flaky with my laptop having a bad hair day. It's happened to others - you are not alone. When it doesn't happen to everyone, it's not being sent multiple times
from source. This leaves your ISP. The best guess is mail processing software at your node plus the processing time at your PC, with ISP's processing probably having time-outs for certain activities, and your email plus attached file is taking so long to come back and say I got it, delete it, that it's doing the conservative thing, timing out and holding on to it for another try. If your ISP has a web read interface direct, then use it to delete a duplicating file. This will short cut some of the processing time and allow the ISP to mark it off. If this is happening on your ISP's web interface, call the ISP, you can't fix it yourself. 73, Guy. Hello Guy
Thanks for that run-down. It never happens on the web access to my email and by the time I've loaded up the web page it's usually stopped replicating. Anyway, these days it only replicates once and then not very often. I felt sure it was some kind of timing problem and probably the laptop with some issue. I updated the BIOS recently and it may have influenced things. 73 David G3UNA When it doesn't happen to everyone, it's not being sent multiple times from source. This leaves your ISP.
