Specifying your location with /4.

Darwin, Keith
I hear you on this one.  Why is it most W8 stations I work are located
in FL? :-)

When I moved from NM to VT, I changed my call.  I got tired of the
confusion when a net asks for stations in the 1 area and I drop in an
AA5 call.  I got tired of trying to clarify so I just changed from AA5AC
to KD1E.

I still wish the FCC required the call match the region because I really
liked being able to tell where a guy was by the number in his call.  But
I do understand how someone who has been WD8DEE all his life doesn't
want to become KO4QLF just because he retired and now lives in FL.

So I've had to learn to put no stock in the number and just work the
station.

To me, if I send CQ de N8IQ, the station responding would understandably
think I was in the 8th district and might be disappointed (if they were
working towards WAS, etc...) if they find that I'm really in 4-land.
