Split fail to engage

N1IRB
I've tried a search of the forums but split is an excessivly common term hi hi.

Please help. My split does not seem to be engaging. I'm in SSB and when I turn on split I get the indication in the window but I am clearly still transmitting on VFO A frequency. No idea why that might be.

I don't need the 2nd reciever to work split do I?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Are you sure it's not working? The VFO A and VFO B frequencies do not
visibly change when you transmit spit with this radio. Some radios
visibly "swap" the A and B frequencies when transmitting; the K3 does
not. Try listening with another radio and check to be sure. The only
visible indications are the "Delta f" yellow light will illuminate, the
"Split" annunciator will be seen and the little black arrow by th "TX"
legend will point to VFO B.

No, you don't need the second receiver to work split.

What is the evidence that convinces you that you are transmitting on the
VFO A frequency? Have you checked this on the air with someone using a
split offset of, say, 5 kHz?

On some radios, the larger and smaller (upper and lower) frequency
displays are exchanged when transmitting in split mode, but this does
not happen on the K3. Don't let the fact that the main frequency display
doesn't change fool you into thinking you are not transmitting split.

Some people find the K3's indications of split operation a bit subtle.
There are three of them: 1. The SPLT indicator appears on the display;
2. Just to the right of the SPLT indicator, a small triangle points down
from the letters "TX" to the B indicator (when not in split mode, the
triangle points up to the A indicator; and 3. The yellow "Delta-f" LED
under the Power switch lights up, provided the VFO A and VFO B
frequencies are different.

Another way of transmitting split, for frequency differences less than
10 kHz, is to use RIT or XIT. When you use this method, the VFO A
display changes between receive and transmit states. This does not
happen when you use Split mode to transmit from VFO B. There is a reason
for this difference: RIT/XIT actually changes the frequency of VFO A,
hence the display change, whereas Split mode using the Split button does
not change the VFO A frequency, but rather switches the transmitter to
using VFO B.

One minor oddity: When RIT and XIT are both engaged with a non-zero
offset, the yellow "Delta-f" LED comes on. It shouldn't, since the
transmit and receive frequencies are the same in this case.

Re: Split fail to engage

My mistake. Yes I tried it with someone and the radio is infact "shifting" correctly. I just added the LP-Pan to my system and when I transmit I can see my signal on the scope waterfall. What was throwing me off is it doesn't show under the split/VFO B frequency rather the VFO A. I have tried a couple of times to break a pile up split and been unsuccessfull. I've heard others operating on the DX freq and people hollering up up so I became concerned when I saw the display that perhaps I was not operating properly. I have not done a lot of split so it wasn't high enough of a concern till now to verify. Thanks for the help.
