Storing Macros in K3

K5HM
Wondering what is the best practice for saving macros?  If I read the manual
correctly, assigning a macro to M1-M4, then I lose the ability to use that
button to store a voice message.   Did I read that right?

It seems to me that having the macro available on the front panel is more
convenient than downloading it from the K3 Utility.

Hi Ron,

correct, you'll "loose" the voice memories then. But you know there's
PF1/PF2 for macros available on the front panel, too, right? Might save
you from needing to assign to M1-M4 if 2 are enough. ;-)

When you are in cw the M1-M4 can be assigned to cw messages.  Change to SBB
and they can contain voice  messages.

I just wrote about storing macros for the PF1 and PF2 buttons on my blog, so perhaps you will find it useful. There's a description there on how a button can reprogram itself to toggle Split and related settings on/off .

See "Clever K3 macro trick" http://la3za.blogspot.no/2013/12/clever-k3-macro-trick.html

Sure. As long as you do not overwrite them with macros. ;-)

Yes, you can then assign M1-M4 to CW/voice messages again but then your
macros are gone again.

Doesn't solve the original "problem". It's either or. But of course you
can mix them, i.e. M1+M2 for macros and M3+M4 for CW/voice messages. You
just don't have 4 then.

Cheers,
Olli
