I am also getting some wierd results on first test. Don recommended a
solder check and I have done this. I have rewetted all the joints on the control board and display to no avail. I get no "info" messages and things seem to come up as they should. On switch on I get: "Elecraft" followed by "2.04P 1.09" then a frequency display. At this point tapping "display" does nothing. Tapping "menu" a few times brings up the menu. Now "display" works and brings up 13volts/0.008amps. Tapping "display" several times again sometimes brings back the frequency display and sometimes the menu. It always seems to want to go back to the menu by itself after a few seconds and a lot of flicking backwards and forwards. "rate" seems to work on frequency and the optical decoder seems to work. Seems to be a wierd intermittant problem. Any ideas would be much appreciated. 73, Pete/N9PT _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Pete,
When you power on, the firmware level is being displayed. That does not normally occur, but it does display like you indicate IF you hold one or more buttons down while powering on. Based on that info, do check to see that all buttons move freely in the front panel button holes. If you can't locate one or more tight buttons, remove the front panel from the board, take off the keycaps and put it together without the keycaps - just to see if everything then works. If it does, then you just have to find out why the keycaps bind on the cutouts - it is difficult to position the switches wrong, so you could have a bad front panel. I had a bad one once, it was punched just a wee bit crooked (only about 2 mm off from a corner to corner measurement), and it was very difficult to see visually - and I even had a good one to compare with. 73, Don W3FPR ----- Original Message ----- >I am also getting some wierd results on first test. As usual, Don's advice is excellent. I would add that you should check
to see if there might be a short between pins on one (or more) of the switches or traces connecting to them. It is EASY to accidentally splash some solder across solder traces either at the switches, the microcontroller or connectors. Depending on your eyesight, a magnifying glass may be required for checking this.
