Subject: Re: K3 and Remoterig

Edward R Cole
Wayne,

I ran into an application that may relate to remote operations of the
K3.  Not exactly sure what the definitiion of "remote" means as you
are using it.

I have a situation where I need to control the K3 VFO in Tx from
another program (actually is a digital mode) and suspect that there
would be a way using the serial I/F.  The sw I am using displays
90-KHz of bandwidth from a LP-PAN connected to the K3 and decodes all
JT-65 signals in the bw.  The software enables one to click on a
particular frequency to transmit.  I'm pretty sure that the sw has
not been set up to talk to a K3.  Most are using a special SDR called the WSE.

The K3 VFO is set on the mid-freq of the 90-KHz band for Rx (easily
done manually), but to change freq for transmit some kind of remote
connection is needed as the sw automatically controls Rx/Tx switching
via RTS or DTR lines.  This is in the DATA mode, of course.  The sw
is MAP65 by Joe Taylor, K1JT and becoming very popular for eme.

This may require a collaboration between the K3 remote sw and
MAP65.  I am not a sw designer or even a programmer so excuse the
naiveness of my question (getting my feet wet without boots).  I
assume that programs like HRD do not currently have the ability to
control the K3.
