Swing Arm Magnifier

<Since my LASIK, my close up vision has tanked, and
before I tackle the K2 I need a really good swing arm
magnifier - looking at the type that has a
ring fluorescent lamp around it - but that's not an
absolute requirement.

I've had poor ones in the past and they are a pain to
keep stationary. I can't find anything in local stores
and while I have no problem ordering one
over the internet, it's difficult to winnow the wheat
from the chaff.

Anyone got any leads on good ones?>

Hi Tom and group,  I picked up a good swing arm
magnifier from the local Harbor Freight store.  (They
are also on the internet.)  It cost about $40 and I've
had good service from it.  I actually don't use it for
most soldering...without my glasses I can see very
well out to 10-12 inches.  I use it to check
components and my soldering.  It is a bit difficult to
use for actual soldering in certain instances.  The
ring light in mine is near daylight making for easier
identification of components and color codes.  The
ring eliminates shadows which is a great aid for
checking your work.

I inspected PCB's for several years and only used the
above type of magnifier.  Luxo was the brand of choice
then.  That was 20 years+ ago and I still read color
codes without conscious thought.....guess like some
folks read CW.

Have a great day!
