160 meters was full of pileups this morning. I didn't get up early enough to catch 3D2R on Rotuma at their sunset on 1823 but when I turned the rig on I had left it tuned to 1815 KHz. T32C on Kirimitati (Christmas) Island was calling CQ and listening UP 2. Hit the split macro, punched Operate on the KPA500 ant put out my call. BINGO! Got him first call even through the myriad of spikes showing on the P3. Time was about 05:45 Central, 10:45Z. The antenna was a 1/4 wave inverted L. The flat top portion starts out at about 35 feet and slopes slightly upward to a big tree in my neighbor's front yard. The instant ON and super QSK really make it almost too easy - Thanks, Elecraft for a super little matching amplifier to round out the "K-Line".
I can still see the "zoo" of spikes calling 3D2R on Rotuma, but I can't even hear a whisper of him here through the S7 QRN right now
