TBD

Benny Aumala-2
All reflectos readers are not insiders of english / american
abbreviations. TBD is not common shortcut in CW-traffic.
What it means?

- To Be Determined
- To Be Decided
- To Be Discussed
- To Be Defined
- To Be Done

These are the variations Wikipedia gives to-day.

In my reply to Dave, I used TBD to mean "To Be Determined".

Yep, in my profession, when I was working with students, WNL may mean Within
Normal Limits or just We Never Looked ! :)

Where I came from (raised on English) it means "To Be Done" (which might
include that something need to be determined or simply that there wasn't
time to do it yet).

And that's the bane of abbreviations. They don't mean exactly the same thing
to two different people - sometimes they mean exactly the opposite! So I'll
use TBD in notes to myself, but never when trying to communicate with
others.

Thank goodness!  I was afraid that NL has been split into two or more sections (for
SS).

My son used to say "PCMCIA" stood for "People Can't Memorize Computer Industry
Acronyms".

Or that can be shortened to "JAA" - "Just Another Acronym".

In selected presentations in my long past, I sometimes used the
abbreviation "IHA" in jest, hoping someone might ask what it meant (I
Hate Acronyms)!  Often it just passed without comment, and that is sad -
communication requires speaking and writing so others can understand
even if they cannot "crawl inside our brain".

I don't know when all this acronym stuff started, but it may date back
to the math usage of "QED" at the conclusion of a proof.
