TX blocked

Ahoj,

It's not possible to unblock TX outside the ham bands by h/w mod.
In my oppinion there is s/w lock in the standard firmware of the K3.
I can recommend to contact Elecraft support but I am not sure if the
unblocking K3 is in harmony with Elecraft policy.

Re: TX blocked

We should remember that K3 sells globally and a transmitter which could work
outside the amateur bands might cause problems in some countries.   It is my
understanding that even as things stand Thailand will not allow the use of
the K3 by their amateurs.   Lets not forget that the FCC limits the receive
frequency range for some scanners and HTs so as to keep them off certain
critical frequencies including wireless phones.

Mean while the K3 is a wonderful radio.

We do fully support this through software.

Email [hidden email] requesting the TX limit removal program. (Its a 'one-time' run program.)  Please include your callsign and K3 s/n.

It is the individual ham's responsibility for all rig modifications they make and to insure that they operate within their license limitations.

One concern I have about this is that some people may not be running a
spectrum analyser on the output, or using pre-emptive filtering. I
suppose it is just possible that Elecraft have characterised the
harmonic output on MARS frequencies, although I suspect not.

TX inhibit

Igor Sokolov-2
We are using pair of K3 in WRTC style competition. Since the requirement
there is only one signal at any given moment we are using external lock out
on PTT lines. The problem with this arrangement is that if one of the PTT
line is disabled by lock out and operator starts to TX, he will still hear
his transmission through the monitor and therefore may not realize he is not
transmitting. If we use Inhibit feature of K3 will we be able to solve that.
In other words does inhibit work as PTT lock out or does it inhibit TX
entirely including monitor function?
