Taking the Plunge

Ron Ricketts
After a lot of consideration and a good bit of encouragement from several
members of this group, I have ordered a K2 with essentially all options
except for the 100W module. I had recently purchased a pre-built example of
each Elecraft rig (KX1, K1, K2) and after looking them over closely decided
I have good enough eyesight to tackle the job myself. I picked up a new
magnifier hood and that seems to do the trick.

So.... I'll be starting the kit in a month or so after I get some other
matters taken care of, and really look forward to building something I can
truly call my own. The folks at Elecraft plus the great folks here make a
support system second to none. In the meantime, I'll be revving up my
prebuilt K2 (#1696) to current specs.

One last thing... we all like to make jokes about the XYL and how they carry
on about our interest in these noisy boxes we like to spend hours hovering
over. I have to say that I'm very fortunate in having a YL that encourages
me in this and told me to quit wondering if I could do it, but to just get a
K2 and build it!

Yes, dear....

Ron WA5VFA

Have fun with the kit, Ron. It's not hard to build, and you can get
answers to any question that comes up either from us or by posting to
the list. Invest in a temperature-controlled soldering station, and
take your time!
