Tardy Dayton Comments

Dave Van Wallaghen
My apologies for being so tardy with my comments, but I went on vacation
after Dayton (without email access) and then it took a week for me to get
everything back to normal around here when I got home ;-)

Eric and Wayne were gracious enough to allow me to display my enclosures for
the W1 and AF1 in exchange for volunteering some time in the booth. The K3
buzz was overwhelming. At any given time, people were 5 and 6 deep waiting
to get their hands on the K3 or talk to Eric, Wayne or Lyle about it. I
spent most of my time in the isle because it was so crowded in the booth. I
witnessed and was told by many that the Elecraft booth was the "place to
be". A number of hams reported that the K3 was being discussed in the other
major competitor's booths and we saw many of the "other" booth workers
strolling by to take a look.

On Friday night, I took my wife out for a nice dinner and sweet talked her
into me ordering my K3 the next day :-) I told her that I was going to
finance it with the sales from my enclosures and she bought it ;-) Ah, the
things you can accomplish with a little wine and a good blues bar.

It was truly amazing how much I learned from just hanging around the booth
with Eric, Wayne and Lyle as well as famous reflector celebrities like Don
Wilhelm and Tom Hammond along with numerous volunteers. We've seen the
accolades presented here about these fine gentlemen, but I've got to tell
you that after meeting them in person, you won't find nicer guys. I couldn't
help but think that these guys have probably forgotten more about ham radio
than I know. I was very glad to meet them in person.

Eric, Wayne and Lyle had rock star status all weekend, putting in countless
hours answering every single question presented to them. People were
literally lined up to see them demonstrate the K3. They were constantly
being supported with water and nutrition by Lerma and Heather who along with
Brian, held down the fort so to speak.

It was my first time in Dayton and certainly memorable. I would like to
personally thank Eric, Wayne, Lyle, Lerma, Heather and Brian for making me
feel at home and allowing me to display and sell some enclosures (Lerma sold
a few for me early in the day before I could get to the booth). They all put
in tireless hours and listened to every single comment made by the
attendants. I heard on more than one occasion the term "cult status" from a
number of people in the booth. These guys have earned the title. It was
certainly the biggest buzz going at the show.

Now to just wait for the K3 to show...

73,
Dave W8FGU

Hi Dave,

Your attractive enclosures got a lot of attention, too!

Thanks for your help at Dayton--

I saw them at SeaPac and they are VERY nice indeed.  Made me want to go
build the AF kit...but don't think the K3 will really need it.  :)

At least half a dozen people took careful note of your call when viewing the
enclosures at SeaPac too. Primary interest was in the WM1 installed in one.
