Although I do not operate on HF very often, a check-in to my Alaska
VHF-Up Net yesterday morning alerted us to the 10m being open. I
tuned in on 28.4xx after the net (1900z) and immediately came upon
W1DVE talking with an Alaskan buddy, Tom - NL7OW. I waited and had a
nice chat with Roger in SE OR, then W6AFA near Pasadena, KD0FGH in
eastern SD, KC9LDK in Indiana. The I head a ?E1USA calling so
called him back. Turned out to be E51USA on Roratonga (Cook
Is.). That was a surprise as I was pointed east with my TH3mk4 and
running 8w from the K3/10. Even so I got a 5x3 report. I also heard
but did not work a station in Maine.
Quite a few Alaskans were heard working 10m with an obvious
"pipeline" to the lower-48.
Note that all these contacts were done at 8w with the K3/10 (radio
drops power for 10m/6m to 8w).
