I used to "hang out" at Tampa's WPD ... boy, that
was a long time ago!  Helped ole Al Burnham pet
the wharf cats.  

Anyone know when it went QRT?

As a kid, I often visited a station in S. California, in Hawthorne, I think.
 Long time ago.  I don't remember the call sign.  Maybe KFS.

OT: The Good Kind of IMD for CW buffs

Ken G Kopp

FCC site says the WPD license expired in 1996.  Would have
expected it to been gone long ago.  Google Earth shows an
asphalt lot at 1330 McKay St where it was.  Had two self-
supporting towers and a ship's console for a station.

KOK.  I worked there while a high school senior in 56-57. KFS was in the
SF Bay area south of the SFO airport.
