Subject: KX3 on AM.Have posted several queries concerning the KX3 on AM with no response.I do have a use for AM (!) but the KX3 on transmit does a poor job on my setup.I have heard K3's which do sound good.Is there something I am doing wrong or is AM a future KX3  project? The KX3 does advertise AM as a mode! Any guidance would be much appreciated. Larry W1FXR / G8CCO.

Hello Larry!

Do you mean the transmit audio is distorted, or that the RF output power
is low, or that the percentage of modulation is low, or some combination
of the above?  Or something else entirely?

> I have heard K3's which do sound good.Is there something I am doing wrong or is AM a future KX3  project? The KX3 does advertise AM as a mode! Any guidance would be much appreciated.

The KX3 AM transmit path is designed to prevent over-modulation and
splatter first and foremost.   To this end, the peak modulation is
limited.  I find I get about 80% or more modulation with a tone or
whistle, and 50% or so peak modulation with speech.

If your meaning of "poor" is under-modulation, that is something I can
take a closer look at in the DSP code.  If you mean something else, I'll
need more clarity on the problem definition.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention,

73,

Lyle KK7P
