Actually, this type of antenna might possibly work better than a Buddipole
in many situations. A Buddipole can be set up as a vertical dipole like
this, but the TW-2020 is also end loaded somewhat, so possibly a bit more
efficient. I can say that for sure though, as I've never really tried this
exact antenna. In any event, I feel even stronger that it would outperform
a Buddipole that was set up in a horizontal configuration.
However, I do think vertical dipoles have some merit. I have a Force12
vertical dipole, and it works pretty well. I use it on 40 meters only,
although it can be re-adjusted for other bands. That's a pain in the butt
though, so I leave it set for just the one band. Mine might work better
than the Trans World on 20 meters because it is bigger, and thus relies
less on inductance to make up the difference. Still, it has a fairly small
footprint, and is easy to assemble/dis-assemble. The big benefit is no
radials as it is a balanced antenna. Just getting it up off the ground a
bit seems to really help.
My biggest problem with antennas like this is the cost. They certainly
aren't cheap if you buy them commerically. Most of these could be
homebrewed at a substantial savings, and probably are not that difficult to
duplicate. Alternatively, maybe you can find one of this type 2nd hand,
which is what I did.
Anyway, I'd check out the QST reviews, and maybe even model them if you have
that capability.

That's simply a short, loaded radiator, either a doublet (if fed near the
center) or a monopole.
It will work nearly as well as the "Buddi Pole" that Elecraft (and others)
sell, which means it will make a lot of contacts under the right conditions.
Or you can create your own version by throwing up a low doublet and feeding
it through the KAT3 or KAT3 tuners.
What you are paying for in these antennas is convenience, not performance.
