Transverter LO frequency.

Geoffrey Mackenzie-Kennedy-2
Good morning everybody,

Am I right in assuming that the LO frequency of the transverters is below
the signal frequency as no frequency inversion occurs , or are some clever
software tricks used to turn the IF frquency readout back to front if the
transverter LO is on the high side, ie a 30 MHz IFoutput from transverter is
made to look like 28MHz when signal frequency is say 144MHz (or 50 MHz ).

Reason for question. Am toying with the idea of retiring aged homebrew
transverters - subject to approval from headquarters and piggy bank - but
need more info on spurious response levels if LO is on the low side. 4Fo -
3Fsig = IF for example on 2 metres, which "crosses over" at Fsig = 145 MHz
if I remember correctly.

Bit early in the morning for this sort of thing.

Geoff    GM4ESD

RE: Transverter LO frequency.

Ron D'Eau Claire-2
Well, I'll answer the first part of your question. Yes, the L.O. is below
the signal frequency. About 194 MHz for the XV220, 116 MHz for the XV144, 22
MHz for the XV50. That puts the I.F. from the transverters into  the "10
meter" band for the K2.

As for the spurious response info, I only wrote the manual. I'll leave the
design info to the engineers.
