Turn down the K3 power with the amp set on Operate.
John KK9A N4ZR n4zr at comcast.net New owner trying to get ready for the CQWW 160 contest. Rig is a K3 with the Aux cable connected. When the amp is in Standby mode, using a dummy load, I'm readily able to deliver 30 watts CW (or 50 or 100) on 160 with the tuner bypassed or in. However, as soon as I switch the amp to Operate, and send my first dash, I get a hard fault with the LCD message input power 67 watts. I'm guessing it might be a K3 adjustment, but I don't know where to look. Any advice much appreciated! 73, Pete N4ZR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

I run my KPA1500 on 160 mtrs , with about 20 to 30 watts of drive from my K3s which gives me 1100 to 1450 watts out.. You need to be sure to use the auto tuner in the KPA1500 and be sure the SWR is low enough to operate . If the SWR is to high, or you over drive the amp, the KPA 1500 amp will go to fault. Try starting with a lower drive of 12 to 15 watts for the first pass with the auto tuner. Oh and be sure the RF CONNECTORS ARE ALL GOOD AND TIGHT.. A POOR CONNECTION OR A BAD CONNECTOR WILL CAUSE A FAULT WHEN HIGH WATTAGE IS APPLIED.
