Hi All,
I have a problem with my Brand X USB to serial converter or cable that I have not seen addressed here. It works fine except when I access it, it introduces noise to my K3. This noise sounds like QRN and it happens only if I open the K3 utility or HRD. It does not seem to affect the S meter. I have snap-on chokes at both ends of the USB cable. The strange thing is I just started noticing this a few months ago, before that it worked without adding noise (I think). It functions OK and does what it is supposed to, except for the noise. It is connected to a Dell 5100 PC running Windows XP SP3 fully updated. Any ideas??? Try looping two or three turns through the snap-on, which will
increase the suppression a good deal. -73, Guy. Some of the down-market adapters have poor shield attachments. Could
it be that in handling your adapter, you caused the shield to loosen up or detach at one end or the other (of the cable)? The KUSB doesn't have this problem, btw. matt W6NIA On Fri, 20 Nov 2009 11:38:19 -0800, you wrote: >Hi All, > >I have a problem with my Brand X USB to serial converter or cable that I have not seen addressed here. G'day,

However, when I connected my KUSB to the K3 via my home brew CAT6 cable serial lead in series with it there was no noise. I've been meaning to make up a very short RS232 cable to see if that configuration still works, noise wise that is. I had some noise from USB activity to my EMU-0202 which occurred even when I had the sound device unplugged! I noticed I had a USB / RF mouse and the USB cable paralleled the 12v power cable to the K3 for about a foot. Moving that cable eliminated the noise.
